Guitar, bouzouki "Donal Clancy's guitar playing is bold and easy, rhythmically anchoring and emotionally resonant. His solo of an old Breton air was somehow both elegant and robust." The Boston GlobeCarrying the legacy of the Clancy family name into the 21st century, guitarist Donal Clancy has established himself at the forefront of a new generation of traditional Irish musicians. Born in the Ring Gaeltacht of Co. Waterford to legendary singer Liam Clancy, Donal cut his musical teeth as his father's accompanist in concert tours throughout the world. He has recorded two critically acclaimed CDs with his father and they are currently collaborating on a third. Donal came to fame in his own right as a founding member of the Irish super-group Danú, and later cemented his reputation as one of the genre's leading guitarists as a member of both Solas and The Eileen Ivers Band. He has appeared on CDs by Kevin Crawford, Danú, Martin Murray, Mike & Mary Rafferty, Aoife Clancy, Cherish The Ladies, The Clancy Brothers, and Eileen Ivers and Solas. His first solo CD release "Close to Home" continues to garner excellent reviews. Donal lives in New Jersey with his wife, Mary Rafferty, and their two children and tours extensively as a session musician and accompanist. He joins family members Aoife Clancy, Robbie O'Connell, and George Keith for special tours and festival appearances as The Clancy Legacy. |
